Don't worry about what to wear, you can have everything there, boots included.

.....Saturday, the last day of the festival, early in the afternoon...finally Venice is up on stage, one of my favourite at all! Native of Viterbo, moved to Rome for study, Benjamin is a real musician, and an absolutely lovely person. He participated at the last edition of "Red Bull Music Academy". Often compared to cosmic sounds, we are actually talking about an omnivore in terms of music. His latest EP "Animals, Stars and Other Creatures Psychedelic" perfectly blends evolved electronics, surf interludes, pure psychedelic, 90's british and tribal rhythms. During the concert he involves unknown technologies to me, he plays acoustic and electric guitar, he dances without never remove his sunglasses. A relic at the neck, motivated by his adoration for Alejandro Jodorowsky, visionary director, writer and screenwriter.

Coming from the underground scene of New York, familiar to contexts like the CBGB's Gallery and the Baby Jupiter, the "No Surrender", aka Eddie Steeples (also actor in "My Name is Earl"), Gnomad and Sherapim blend hip -hop, Afro-Punk, electro, soul, synth-pop and indie-rock, offering a pleasant interlude. For the new album "Medicine Babies" the group has recorded with Tunde Adebimpe, lead singer from "TV on the Radio", Radioclit (Santigold, MIA, Bonde Do Role) and Freq Nasty. During their live at the Village, they call on stage professionals and photographers, using until the last second. A fine discovery!

Well, now, what can I say about Gilles Peterson? That the Japaneses are crazy about him? That he mixed jazz, samba, soul, boogie and funk for an hour and forty minutes of genuine entertainment? Or that he is a truly friendly artist, quite denied in dance? Grown up in south London, DJ Gilles, along with other distinguished colleagues, founded the legendary label "Acid Jazz", promoters of names like Jamiroquai and Mother Earth. In addition, and besides producing reference compilations also for the Blue Note, Gilles founded the "Talkin Loud", another important label. His works are dozens, combining styles from all around the world. Don't miss his program for the BBC "Worldwide Underground".

The final DJ set at "Sonar de dia" comes from Tiger & Woods, Roman duo that already created a considerable scene. The audience is happier than ever, dancing more than ever.

Their work is a trademark of contemporary reworking of boogie, funk, house and collapsed. "Editainment" is the mysterious label that produces Larry and David. If you see this name somewhere, be sure that dancing will not be an option!

Let's now talk about the evenings...

The first party in the city is that one from "Life and Death", a label founded by Italian Manfredi Romano (DJ Tennis) and Greg Oreck (Thugfucker). The situation at the ZT Hotel, Villa Olimpica, is quite frantic, there is a huge fun desire, and the daylight lasts up to 10 pm.

A drop at the OMM hotel is my following step; Dj Ralf, aka Antonio Ferrari, is still resident dj at Cocorico (famous club in Riccione), and he has been involved with such phenomena events as "Les Folies de Pigalle", "Breakfast At Tiffany's", or the latest "Made in Italy Ibiza". With a smile on his face, he does brilliantly his job. Unfortunately, I do not hold back until the end ...

Sonar de Noche reveals itself quite different from the day, definitely more cheap and trash. Spaces are larger, the turnout more numerous, but the music proposals much far from my tastes, with a pleasant exception. But lets proceed by order.

I can enjoy a bit of the Underworld' exhibition, surprised to see how such a large amount of people know by heart all their pieces.

After them, Mary Anne Hoobs, british dj, music journalist and radio host for the BBC (which has just left). Festival abituè, she is considered a feminine dubstep icon. In 13-years of career she amassed more than 700 worldwide live! WOW.

Paul Kalkbrenner is the last I hear, but, honestly, I don't remain very impressed by his "cinematic sound", as defined by Ellen Allien, big fan and friend of this German DJ.

I want to spend my last lines for the performance that I enjoyed the most: Janelle Monàe!

A real show, of those who had not seen for time, with a great band, fantastic dancers and a real choral experience! We know that Janelle is particularly linked to the talent of Michael Jackson: she performed "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5, singing exactly like a baby Michael.

The first 8 minutes live involved soul, funk and Prince' sounds, thrilling the audience. In addition to a fantastic voice, the girl has a unique charisma, dancing and moving on stage as if it was his place ... and indeed it is!

Blue skies, windows and synthetic grass sorround the Spanish festivals of contemporary electronic.

The location of "Sonar de Dia" is the beautiful MACBA, "Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona". People dance barefoot on the green carpet that cover the ground in front of the main stage. I must admit that Sonar has been to me a very nice surprise event, almost intimate in some ways, nothing to do with the chaos I expected. Among the musical proposals, I definetly liked ones, while others well, what can I say? Not in my strings. But, if you add good vibes, sun and great Catalan food ...

My opening concert was Toro y Moi, stage name of Chazwick Bundick, twenty-five years old, native of South Carolina. Chaz brings on stage clear references to 'electropop from the 80s, mixed with synth, loops, samples and filtered voices.

Soon after, always at the Village Stadium, comes Floating Points with its amazing vinyls, officially entered in my favorite DJs list. Dj and producer, founder of Eglo, independent British indie label, Sam Shepherd has a 'classical and jazz music education, his father encouraged him to join a local choir as a child. Syrian, Indian, classical, jazz, house, dubstep, hip hop, soul... his sets include all of these genres, and even more. Herbie Hanckock, Fela Kuti, War, Chaka Kahn are some names that I could pick up during the live performance. A special mention, however, the real tribute, uncompromising fashionistas, who he gave to the genius of Gil Scott Heron, recently died, proposed in the full live version of "Home is Where the Hatred Is." We really danced!

"The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble" performs at the Sonar Dome, hosted by Red Bull. Daniel Brandt, German musician, winner of the Red Bull Music Academy in 2006, began playing drums in rock bands, jazz and even classical orchestras. Then he started producing electronic music with his partner Jan Brauer. The meeting with the composer Paul Frick was decisive for the trio' creative process: Brandt Brauer Frick is a unique project, able to stage a techno / club sound, very appreciated in the contemporary scene. Their live involves a real jazz band, a harpist and a cellist included.

Short note for Sebastien Devaud, in art Agoria, with its mix of soft techno and dreamy house, and Atmosphere, american hip hop group, my soundtrack while I was looking around, comfortably lying in the shade of the trees.

Finally is the turn of Mtendere Mandowa, aka Teebs, able to enchant the audience with his avant-garde sound, rich of atmospheres. Often interspersed with environmental ' sounds, buzzing, wet ropes and strange percussion, the production of his pieces is impeccable, clearly inspired by the sound of Flying Lotus. Apparently Mtendere is also a painter .. I can imagine him, on the back of his Los Angeles house, enjoying a beer, with colors in his hand, some music from the stereo ...

Arriving in Venice is always a bit 'weird. Every time I wonder how they can hold those houses, the foundations were built on ground so unstable, the water line is like thirty centimeters below the height of the windows. Then I remember the Visigoths and the Longobards invasions, and the fact that the city was the capital of the Venetian Republic, and that every years welcomes a crazy number of people ... even if my question remains in part unresolved, its historical roots confort me.

Moving around without losing yourself in the maze of streets, bridges and "campi" is quite challenging; an iPhone in my bag is not enough, Google Maps misfires and people know that giving information is often a futile effort...

But everybody is very kind, always. And the atmosphere created during the inaugural days of Biennale is something rare.

Of course, the frame is more than ever chic and elegant. People are all mixed up, smiling to each other "scenario". Brilliant minds and beautiful architectures are everywhere!

Travelling by boat is what it is, you need to be patient, or rent a private boat. By the way, all the efforts are amply rewarded when you enter into the gardens of Biennale: aesthetic details of every single pavilion reveal the characteristics of the nations they represent; sometimes you can see a glare between the trees, which means "sea beyond the hedge".

Walking through the gravel paths is easy to run into an athlete, who trains on an overturned tank. Entering the adjacent American pavilion you can attend the performance of professional gymnasts, exercising on some worn first class seats from American Airlines; you can even listen to the harmonious notes of an ATM/organ, happy for a transaction: this is the creativity of Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla, Puerto Rican duo, representing the United States.

Austria is austere and elegant, as always. The work of Markus Schinwald is one of my favourite: through various techniques, ranging from painting to experimental film, he examines the human body, destabilizing the 'internal space", suggesting some kind of research to the visitors.

And then France, Korea, Japan, Sweden, England ...

Video-art is completely charming! You can get lost in stories of a dancing Obama in a sunny square, just in front of the "Queen Sofia" Museum in Madrid, video-opera by Martin Sastre. Absolutely you must admire "The Clock" by Christian Marclay, capable of create a narration taking images from many film.. Omer Fast, Israeli artist, enchants with breathtaking footage from a helicopter, a prelude to the same story, developed by changing internal parts every time. The list could continue!

Without realizing it, in a moment you are in a room where people are becoming the opera, thanks to the clay of Norma Jeane, "nom de plume" behind a man. It's funny to be photographed next to self-portrait from Cindy Sherman, or to admire a huge sculpture inspired to "The Rape of the Sabine Wome" from sixteenth century, recreated in wax by Urs Fisher, the statue is in fact a huge candle, and it is melting (the label on the wall defines the size of the work as "variables").

A special mention to Regina Jose Galindo, from Guatemala: she exhibited her rotten gold teeth, pulled out by an European dentist, to report the futility of tangible things and the metaphor of South America colonial plunder

Within such a large concentration of quality, it's almost embarrassing to visit the Italian pavilion, rightly criticized and criticized.

But we host the Biennale, it is good enough, isn't it?

Fortunately, I run into Rick Owens and his wife, and thanks God that Italy is also represented by Maurizio Cattelan and Monica Bonvicini, just to mention two names. The moral rises up!

Negative note for the party anxiety, which can be harmful. Although, to be honest, it's a sin not to attend when you have boats events, parties on mysterious islands or in magnificent palaces, inevitably ending up in the halls of Bauer Hotel or at chic "Bungalow 8".

Competitions, silent challenges, psychotic dramas, fake work-related stress, superfluous eccentricity, exaggerated exhibitionism... these arguments are out here! People talk in a totally easy way. Nothing like "OMG, I am so tired, I had a shooting today, I am exahusted... you can't understand!", or "This city is so boring, I deserve more"...

I filmed "At The Loft" video in London, before, during and after this special event I attended to... The Loft, by David Mancuso.

I am sure you all know him, he's the pioneer dj of disco music.

First celebrated in his house in New York, the Loft, the famous party he invented, started to change locations every time due to the big success, becoming a truly place to be during the '70.

Three times a year you can go to "The Light ", in Shoreditch, to participate, and to dance untill you get the energy!

Dumbo Gets Mad

A big up to my little brother!

I am so proud of him!

Dumbo Gets Mad was formed in the summer of 2010, in North Italy, now moved to L.A.

The initial aim was to make some recording sessions of marvelous music, being opened to any directions that the project was going to take.

"Plumy Tale" was the first published track: positively reviewed by several music blogs, "Dumbo" decided to work on his first Album.

"No matter what it sounded like, it had to be psychedelic!!": that is the original spirit.

"Elephants at the door" is out today!!

The album has been recorded with no fancy equipment, but some old-fashioned stuffs like analog synthetizers and tape machines, good vibes too!

Bad Panda Records is the label that made this possible.

What do you do and where are you from?

Fabiana: I was born in Palermo, Sicily. I live now in Milan, I am fashion director and stylist for PIG MAGAZINE.

I also work as freelance; I recently wrote an interview for "L'Uomo Vogue", out now, January issue :)

Rebecca: I'm a "multitasker" but I actually work at RetroSuperFuture Sunglasses, where I take care of marketing and distribution, and I'm also part of the creative team. I was born in Stockholm but grown up in Viareggio, a small city on Tuscany seaside.

How did you know each other?

F: I met Rebecca at PIG. She came months ago for an internship in the fashion team. During the first days I thought she was so nasty and snob, but she is now one of my best friends!

R: truth is that it wasn't love at first sight ahahaahaha

Why do you love fashion? Why do you think it is so attracting, especially now, especially in the blog era?

F: I was 8 years old when I spoke for the first time about journalism and fashion. I was looking at my mom and saying: "When I 'll grow up I want to be a journalist and I want to win the Pulitzer Prize, wearing a long red classic dress by Valentino". From then my only purpose was to make it happen. Ok, maybe not the Pulitzer and maybe not the long red Valentino, but moving to Milan was the perfect choice to become a fashion journalist. Now that I am here, things are not so easy; my greatest pride will be make it with my own hands. I think that fashion today is going to be more and more in the hands of those that until now were the "outsiders": bloggers, for example, are now an influencial voice to listen to. That's why Rebecca and I decided to have our own blog,

R: Fashion is like an extension of my personality, it can perfectly represent my kind of mood. There are 1000 different ways to express fashion, everyone can be a trend setter in it's small own world. There are lots of fashion blogs, all different, with their own style and their exclusive identity; that's the point, and that's why at the end you can't follow just one, but you visit randomly your favorite selection.

What is the best place you have been to?

F: Uhm... I always tend to be very attached by Sicily, for this reason I would say Lampedusa, a small island closer to Africa than to Italy :) I spent there the most incredible summers of my life. You have to go there, it's magical. And the sea is just perfection.

R: It's really hard for me to answer to this question, I'm that kind of person that gets excited for everything new. If I may say, I have a real passion for nordic countries: Berlin and Stockholm are my favorite cities.

Where did you spent your Christmas holiday?

F: In Palermo, of course. My beloved hometown. I don't like Christmas that much, but it was a good chance to stay with my old friends and eat eat eat :)

R: I went to Malaysia and Thailand with my family. I spent almost every Christmas holiday there. This year was even more exciting because my friends came too!

What do you think about the actual magazine worldwide scene?

F: As I said before, I would like to see more PIG MAGAZINEs around, and less Glamours. The situation is fortunately changing. I Love You, Lula, Baby Baby Baby, Contributor Magazine, Love Magazine, The End: these are some examples of what a nowadays magazine should be.

R: Printed magazines have today a deeper value then in the past: they' re real collection pieces. Most of the times, when you buy a printed copy, it's because you really want it in your personal archive.

What is the last thing you bought?

F: Vintage clothes for sure. It's a kind of obsession. If I run into a vintage shop I can't ignore it; I absolutely have to go in and buy at least one thing. That's part of my style.

R: A pair of red suede Superga platform.

Suggest some places you like..

F: Genova. It's amazing.

R: I have travelled a lot since I was a child, with my parents, but I haven't seen so many places in Italy. This summer Fabiana invited me to Palermo, I totally felt in love with Sicily: the food, the sea, people, the buildings, everything is amazing. Sicily is now my new obsession. I joke with Fabiana all the time: "I truly feel more sicilian than you!"

And some cooking advices..

F: Oh, yes, that's my thing. I love to cook, I am sicilian, I would be a monster If I didn't. The last thing I made it's the "Bianco Mangiare" with pistacchi di Bronte, a typical Christmas dessert.

What you need in the kitchen is a lot of fantasy and a bit of experience. My grandmother made this possible: she teached me everything.

R: I'm very bad at cooking, the crazy thing is that my mum is a chef! Neverthless, I'm pretty good in preparing breakfast, everyone says that my scrambled eggs are delicious: I add cheese, salt, pepper and some milk... secret is to cook them just a little, they must be fluffy!

A soundtrack for the morning?

F: I am obsessed by Lucio Battisti. He is one of my favorite singers... a morning song should be "La Luce dell'Est".

Last friday night I was invited to dj with my boyfriend (first pic) at Pink Is Punk Party, hosted by Marcelo Burlon (fourth pics, pole dancing).

The new location is incredible: an ex Peep Show Club in downtown Milan, driven by a truly 70's mood.

This is surely the best party in town.

This summer I had the pleasure to collaborate with the Drodesera Festival, one of the most renowned performing art event in Italy.

Inside the spaces of the beautiful Centrale Fies (a still working power plant), in Dro near Trento, from July 23rd to August 1st, resides this neuralgic center of avant garde creative play.

I was invited to exhibit some pictures in the foyer area (soon the images of the set).

I RECENTLY WORKED WITH VICE AND YOOX ON A NEW PROJECT FOR VICELAND.COM.

BASICALLY, I SELECTED A TREND, AND A FICTIONAL STORY. I BUILT A LOOK CHOOSING FROM AMONG THE ITEMS FOR SALE IN THE ONLINE SHOP, AND THEN I DESCRIBED MY AIM. BEING VICE ITALY, THE TEXT IS OBVIOUSLY IN ITALIAN.
